ILLUSTRATED JAMAICAN PROVERBS
proverb
noun
a short, well-known pithy saying, stating a general truth or piece of advice.
An ongoing project that examines the intersection between the oral wisdom found in proverbs and the complexity of being British born Jamaican.
Illustrated Jamaican Proverbs: Vol was publish in 2016, a short publication examining the relationship between Jamaican British culture and Jamaican proverbs. I travelled to UWI in Kingston, Jamaica to liaise with the Jamaica Language Institute, in gaining access to current research on how the Jamaican language is to be written.
Since the this ‘meantime’, the project has been developing in the project, and I am excited to share in the coming months what direction this project has taken.
Here you see a sample of those proverbs and some images from the soft launch in 2016.
